A CROSSGATES man who assaulted his pregnant partner has been jailed.

Reece Morgan also wasted the time and resources of police and hospital staff by claiming he was in pain after swallowing a piece of cutlery.

Morgan, 24, of Main Street, Crossgates, appeared in the dock at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.

He admitted that on January 22, at an address in Dunfermline, he assaulted his partner by seizing her by the body, straddling her and throwing liquid over her.

On January 24, at Dunfermline police station and at Victoria Hospital, he claimed falsely to police that he had stomach pain caused by swallowing part of a spork and as a result he was taken to hospital where prior to a surgical procedure he admitted he was not in pain, wasting police time and depriving the public of their services.

He also admitted he breached his home curfew on May 10 and June 27.

Depute fiscal Azrah Yousaf said that Morgan had visited her partner at her home.

After they spent the day together, she had gone to bed at around 10pm but was wakened by him in the early hours of the morning. He started an argument with her about whether he was the father of her child.

He sat over her stomach saying, “if he wasn’t the father, he couldn’t handle it”, added the depute.

He was asking his partner to drink vodka even though she was pregnant.

He then got up, locked himself in the bathroom for 45 minutes and when he came back out he had blood on his arms, legs and face before falling asleep at the top of the stairs.

When she managed to wake him up, he lifted a jug of vodka and threw it over her.

She contacted the police and when officers spoke to Morgan, he said he had swallowed a spork.

He was taken to the Victoria Hospital but the item could not be removed and he was discharged.

He was returned to Dunfermline police station and at 11pm on June 24, he asked to be taken back to hospital as he was in pain.

This was done and preparations were being made for a surgical procedure to remove the item when Morgan said: “I’m sorry. I’ll be honest boys, I’m not really in pain. I just wanted out of the cell.”

Defence solicitor Elaine Buist said her client had not realised what the consequences would be of his claims, adding: “He didn’t think it through.”

Sheriff Lindsay Foulis said Morgan had simply made up a “cock and bull story”.

He jailed Morgan for 12 months and imposed a non-harassment order for 18 months.
