THE LUMPHINNANS community has created a Citizen of the Year award in memory of a woman who did so much for the residents of Robert Smith Court.

Shona Hay died in June, aged just 46, and since the inception of the Robert Smith Court Community Group last year, worked so hard to help her fellow residents.

The RSCCG’s Mark Davies said: “Shona worked so hard in a voluntary capacity and was such an active member of our community.

“She took pride in her work maintaining and upgrading our gardens. And she had lived in Robert Smith Court for close on two decades, probably our longest serving resident, and is sadly missed.

“So our committee agreed, overwhelmingly, to honour her memory and we subsequently purchased a rose bowl/quaich to honour her which we have called the 'The Shona Hay Memorial Award'.

“This will be awarded to our Resident of the Year for contributions to the community and our area.”

Mark added: “We decided as a committee that it would be fitting to award the 2021 Resident of the Year award posthumously to Shona.

“And last Wednesday the oldest resident in Robert Smith Court, Joyce Izatt, presented the bowl to Shona's husband Dougie, a very fitting tribute that our oldest resident should make this award posthumously to Shona.”

Dougie will hold this award until late 2022, whereupon the Residents Group will vote for their next resident of the year, and they also plan on having a memorial bench for Shona in the new community wild garden in the estate.

Mark said: “We offer our congratulations Shona, rest peacefully.

“And our deepest thoughts remain with Dougie, her children, family and friends. The Robert Smith Court community remain here for you.”
