Mark Campbell, from Lochgelly, appeared in private at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court on Monday.
The 35-year-old faced a charge of murder, assault and previously evince malice and ill-will.
The final charge means that the alleged murder is believed to have been aggravated by previous hostile behaviour towards the victim.
He made no plea and will appear again in due course.
