MONDAY was a red letter day for the Bowhill Highland Games Committee when the 2021 event, scheduled for September 12, was given the go-ahead by Fife Council.
This will be the first time that Bowhill Games will have been held in 69 years and it will be a big day for the Cardenden area.
The village’s Wallsgreen Park will house the games on Sunday September 12 and a packed programme of running, cycling, heavies and dancing will fill the four and a half hours the games are expected to go on for.
The organisers had been hopeful that with the easing of Covid restrictions they would get the go-ahead for this year, after the disappointment of having to cancel the scheduled programme for last September.
The Games Committee’s Don Campbell said on Monday: “We were fairly hopeful that the event would get the go-ahead, with the easing of restrictions but with Covid you can never be over confident.
“So when we got the call on Monday it was a massive relief for everybody and we can now put the finishing touches to our Games programme.
“It will be an historic day with it being the first Bowhill Highland Games in almost seven decades.”
Don added: “We will have runners coming to Bowhill from all over Scotland and the north of England, all the normal heavy events and a full cycling programme.
“There will also be a keenly contested Highland dancing contest so there should be something for everyone in the programme.”
