COWDENBEATH have an amazing history of being the first team new arrivals in the Scottish League have played and on Saturday a special memento was presented to Kelty Hearts to mark the occasion.

At the weekend Scottish League football was played for the first time ever at New Central Park..

Indeed, two teams in the SPFL from the small Parish of Beath is quite an achievement and to mark the occasion, Cowdenbeath FC presented a silver salver to Hearts which bears the legend – ‘Presented to Kelty Hearts FC by Cowdenbeath FC on July 31 2021 - Cowdenbeath FC are both proud and privileged to have provided the opposition on the occasion of the Scottish League debuts of our near neighbours and fellow Fife clubs - Dunfermline Athletic FC (1912), Lochgelly United FC (1914) and now Kelty Hearts FC (2021) - In Sport, In Rivalry and In Friendship’.

Club secretary David Allan said: “Cowdenbeath were indeed the opposition when both the Pars and Lochgelly United made their bow in the Scottish League.

“On August 17 1912, Cowden drew 2-2 with Dunfermline at North End Park and then on August 15 1914 the Blues played Lochgelly at Recreation Park and won 4-0.

“Another League debut was on August 19 1905 when we defeated Leith Athletic 1-0 at North End Park, then August 13 1994 was the first Scottish League match for Ross County – they won 2-0 v Cowden at Central Park.

“Cowden remained generous hosts when we let ‘new boys’ Annan Athletic win 4-1 at Central Park on August 2 2008."
