A YOUNGSTER from Central Fife has had his amazing generosity shared with millions after kindness earned him a spot on the BBC’s The One Show.

Twelve-year-old Owen Harrower is regarded as a close friend to the residents of Fernlea House, on Wallsgreen Road in Cardenden and has been visiting them for the last four years.

But at Christmas the generous youngster saved up his pocket money to buy all 20 of his friends a present.

The ladies were gifted some earrings and he splashed out on a lovely bottle of aftershave each for the gents.

Now, The One Show, presented by Ronan Keating and Alex Jones to a crowd of up to 5 million people, played a special segment dedicated to Owen, with former Boyzone star Keating stating that he is the youngest person ever to be nominated for the show’s Big Thank You.

Caitlin Watson, manager of the care home, told the show: “I’ve nominated Owen because he has been a regular visitor here for four years, coming in and doing arts and crafts, playing board games with our residents and lifting spirits.

“He has really brought some life and soul into the residents.”

Michelle, Owen’s mum, said: “I think it is fantastic that Owen gives up his spare time to go and see the residents. I’m really proud of him.”

A little thing like a pandemic didn’t even stop the youngster, who each day during the worst of the Covid crisis attended at the care home to wave through the window to the residents.

Not only that, but one resident, Joyce, who Owen had a special bond with, missed him so much that he created a life-size picture of himself which he handed in so that she could continue to get a hug from him even when he could not attend due to restrictions.

Margaret, a resident at the home, told the show: “I can’t speak of him highly enough; he’s just a special wee boy.”

As a special treat, the show decided to surprise the quiz-loving 12-year-old with one of his own, created by none other than Pointless quizmaster Richard Osman.

Following generic questions which Owen answered correctly, the Pointless host began asking questions about Owen’s own generosity, before revealing that everyone was very proud of him.

Special messages from some of Owen’s idols, including Kevin Bridges, Jenny Ryan and YouTuber Vikkstar, were then displayed in which they all revealed how amazing his selfless work was.

At the end of the clip, Owen said: “I was about to cry because I seen everyone saying thank you to me. I would say to people to visit care homes because it makes you happy seeing everyone smiling.”
