A COWDENBEATH man who went to a neighbour’s door armed with a hammer has been jailed.

A court was told Colin Duffy took the law into his own hands, making threats of violence, after claiming that he and his partner were “terrorised” by the neighbour.

Duffy, 45, of Broad Street, who has a lengthy list of previous convictions, appeared from custody at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.

He admitted previously that on February 13, at Broad Street, he was unlawfully in possession of a hammer.

He also admitted he shouted, swore and made threats of violence.

Depute fiscal Laura McManus said that Duffy refused to answer the door to police and they forced entry.

He told them he had the hammer because “I was fixing my front door that he kicked in.”

Defence solicitor Roshni Joshi told the court previously: “This came against a background of Mr Duffy and his partner being terrorised by the occupant of this property and the matter has been reported to the CID.”

Sheriff Alastair Brown said offending of this nature had a “draining and corrosive” effect on people in the local community. He jailed Duffy for nine months.
