A YOUNG Cowdenbeath girl has bravely had her hair cut to support other children who have suffered from hair loss.

Kara Alexander, a pupil at the town’s Foulford Primary School, began thinking about the endeavour last year, but when push came to shove, she “chickened” out of it.

However, after hearing about the Little Princess Trust from her mum, Lindsey, decided that she would go for it.

One year of growing later, and the eight-year-old took the plunge and had nine inches chopped off, all of which will be used to make wigs for children who are suffering hair loss as a result of chemotherapy or a medical condition.

Kara’s mum told the Times that she has been feeling proud of herself since the cut.

She said: “She wanted to do it last year but she was very young and ended up chickening out of it. She then decided her hair was too long and I told her about the trust and she said she wanted to do that.

“We got in touch with the trust and they explained about the lengths and also told us about fundraising, which we hadn’t thought about.”

After starting a GoFundMe page, the total now sits just shy of £200 which is enough to cover a patient’s appointment.

“She is super proud of herself and she loves her new hair,” Lindsey continued. “The hairdresser has done it before for the trust and said she has had people who burst out crying when they see their hair, so I was a bit worried, but she is chuffed to bits with it.

“She knows that her hair is going to help another little girl.

“We are all so proud of her for actually going through with it this time. Her dad, gran and brothers are all proud of her, too. I got her some new hairbands and have been helping her practice what she can do with her new hairstyle.”

The charitable bug has also been passed on within the house, too, as Lindsey revealed that one of her older brothers has decided he now wants to do something for charity.
