THE team from the popular Lo’gelly Lunches held a successful food drive last weekend as they attempted to restock the supplies ahead of what they expect will be a busy summer.

Speaking to the Times, Lorraine Mullen said it was a great event.

She said: “The food drive was a massive success for the Lo’gelly Lunches. We covered half the town on Saturday and finished the rest on the Sunday.

“In total we received around 3.5 tonnes of food and £1200 in monetary donations - both of which will provide food for the Community Larder for a good few weeks ahead.

“We are providing groceries and toiletries for over 300 every Friday at the Community Larder as well as the ‘ootside larder’ every Tuesday along with the Social Community Cafe in the town hall too.

“The number of people needing a bit of help and support at this time is, unfortunately quite high.

“I would like to give thanks to all the volunteers who gave up their weekend; however a special thanks must go to local man David Farrell who provided his van and trailer to collect the food.

“Events like this captures beautifully the wonderful community spirit we have in Lochgelly with not just the members of Lo’gelly Lunches undertaking this food drive but we had support from other community groups such as the Gala Committee and local people just wanting to help out.

“Not to mention lots of tea and home baking courtesy of Cllr Linda Erskine.”
