A YOUNG boy from Ballingry took part in his first motocross race recently and produced an amazing result.

Mason Robertson, who is just seven-years-old, travelled to Wales for a two-day event as part of the Lucas Oil Kids R Us Series.

With 36 riders taking part in total, the event was a huge success in every aspect, especially as everyone left without any injuries.

Mason’s mum, Lesley, told the Times how the youngster got on.

She said: “Saturday morning saw him behind the start gates for the first time, but he took it all in his stride and continued to produce amazing starts, even pulling into the top five into the first corner.

“Saturday’s best position for Mason was 22nd out of the 36 riders.

“On Sunday he was raring to go and was determined to beat his results from the Saturday. On the second race of the day, Sunday, he smashed it with finishing an amazing 18th.

“His overall position for his weekend riding was 22nd from 36 riders, which is an amazing result for his first race.

“Mason sat with top runners for most of his races sitting between fifth and 10th for most laps.”

Lesley said the weekend was a thoroughly amazing experience for Mason, and one which has only solidified his love for the sport.

She continued: “Overall, it was an amazing weekend with Mason surpassing all our expectations.

“There is lots to work on ahead of his next race with Aberdeen & District Motocross Club in Rhynie on June 20.

“Mason would like to thank all of his sponsors for their continued support, including Even Strokes, Kingdom Off Road Motorcycle Club, Next Gen Detail & Valet, Total MX Photography, Muc Off, Motorex, Yoko.

“Also a huge thanks to Masons coach Jim Grieve for getting him race ready and Cardenden Motocross Track for their support.”
