A NINE-YEAR-OLD girl has walked the entire Fife Coastal Path - 117 miles - in memory of her wee cousin Robyn Knox who died in a tragic accident in Townhill last year.

The achievement would be a massive feat even for most adults but Kara McMillan completed it all in just over three months by taking on two walks every week.

She completed the challenge last week finishing on the Newburgh part of the path.

Kara, who lives in Auchtertool, was desperate do something in memory of Robyn who she spent a lot of time with as a close family relation.

She hopes the funds she's raised - £1375 so far - will help create a room in hospital for parents faced with sudden loss through the Remembering Robyn Trust.

Her mum Adele McMillan told the Press: "It's amazing - she's done so well!

"I'm cousins with Robyn's mum Danielle and I also have a daughter called Heidi who was the same age as Robyn.

"I used to babysit Robyn every week so they all spent a lot of time together.

"After Robyn died we were devastated and really upset. Kara decided she wanted to do something and as we've been doing a lot of walking in lockdown, she asked if she could complete the whole of the Fife Coastal Path.

"I told her that's quite big! But she was determined.

"The first walk we only managed four miles and when she realised she had another 113 to go, I think she realised how big it was.

"By the end we were doing 12 miles in total each time.

"I've done the whole thing along with her and her three-year-old sister had even completed 100 miles! Although most of it was on her dad's back!

"It was so beautiful and even though we've lived in Fife all our lives we saw places we've never seen before!"

Robyn, from Cardenden, was just three when she was hit by a Nissan Micra beside a shop on Townhill’s Main Street on August 3.

She had gone to a local shop with a loved one to get her favourite magazine but parked vehicles outside the front of the shop were blocking the line of sight for any pedestrian or motorist driving. Parking bays have now been removed from the area as a result.

Adele said: "Heidi and Robyn were a similar age and Kara would take them to the park so they were all close.

"It's hard to explain what had happened to Robyn but we just had to be matter of a fact. As you can imagine Kara was very upset.

"It's very important to Danielle that Robyn's memory is kept alive so on every section of the walk we would find a feather and share a memory of Robyn. I think it's been an important part of the grieving process for us too.

"Everybody has just been amazed at what Kara has achieved. I think when she got to that £1,000 mark it really spurred her on.

"She's missed out on events with friends and has been so focused walking in all weathers from snow to sunshine.

"But she's been really overwhelmed by people's generosity too."

Danielle Falconer, mum of Robyn, said: "We are all extremely proud of how selfless Kara is.

"To be so young, giving up her own free time to walk such a distance to raise money, just shows how much of a massive heart she has.

"Robyn spent lots of time as a baby with Kara and it's lovely to see Kara wants to continue to remember Robyn and do things for her.

"Couldn't be prouder of the little girl she is! She's amazing!"
