A PAIR of childhood sweethearts from Cowdenbeath have celebrated 60 years of marriage.
Ian and Isobel Blamey of Johnston Park, Cowdenbeath celebrated six decades of marriage on June 10, albeit in subdued fashion due to the current circumstances.
The happy couple were childhood sweethearts having grown up in the same street in Cowdenbeath before getting married at Cowdenbeath Gospel Mission on the town’s Union Street.
The pair went on to have two children, Alan and Susan, and they now also have two grandchildren.
Following his apprenticeship in Dockyard Rosyth, Ian completed his national service, where he was stationed in Germany.
After finishing his national service, he returned to the dockyard until his retirement. Isobel was a hairdresser until the birth of their children.
After the couple got married they briefly stayed in Crossgates before moving to Cowdenbeath.
Until recently they enjoyed many holidays abroad, especially when they were able to visit family in California.
Both Ian and Isobel have longstanding historical connections with Cowdenbeath.
The town’s Blamey Crescent and the former Blamey Clinic on Broad street are named after Ian’s grandfather Thomas who was Provost of Cowdenbeath and the recipient of the MBE.
Cowdenbeath’s Johnston Park, where they couple currently live, is named in recognition of Isobel’s father James for his work with the community and also being Provost of Cowdenbeath.
He also officially opened Cowdenbeath Leisure Centre in June 1987.
