POLICE have carried out patrols around a Central Fife village following reports of a bogus workman attempting to con elderly residents.

A van was said to have been circulating around Kelty this morning, with a man with an English accent reported to have been offering to do gardening work for residents.

When told residents did not have the price he was charging, he repeatedly dropped his prices before asking for £300 for garden maintenance.

When told no again, the man left the area.

Other residents took to social media to report similar stories involving a man with the same description.

Police Scotland confirmed to the Times that they carried out patrols in the area but were unable to locate the man, and issued advice to residents.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We received a report of a possible bogus workman in the Kelty area around 10am on Wednesday, 16 June.

"Patrols of the area were carried out with no trace and advice was offered to those involved."
