Crossgates Gala has been cancelled for the second year in a row following ongoing challenges posed by the pandemic.

The event was set to take place in early July but the gala committee have confirmed this week that it still isn't "feasible" to go a head.

The roadmap out of Scotland gives an indicative date on May 17 when we could see outdoor and indoor events restarting, but capacity may be limited initially.

Restrictions on meeting up outdoors will ease further too and by early June 'more normality' is expected but there are no concrete plans for large scale events.

Crossgates Gala Committee hope to put on some smaller events later in the year if restrictions allow.

In December the group organised a Christmas parade to bring some festive cheer to the village in the wake of a difficult year.

A post on Facebook said: "I’m sure it won’t be a surprise to anyone that, despite things starting to ease and open up over the next few weeks, unfortunately it still isn’t feasible to go ahead with the gala in early July.

"There is still a lot of uncertainty over large scale events.

"We are closely monitoring the Scottish Government guidelines and if possible we may look at smaller events towards the end of the year.

"Please keep an eye on the facebook page where future plans would be posted."
