A FUNDRAISER has been launched after a dog swallowed a discarded fish hook – leaving the owner with a £2,000 vet bill.

While out a walk around Lochore Meadows Country Park at the weekend, Lena, a black Labrador, spotted a fish on the ground which it gladly ate.

What Lena did not realise at first, however, was that the hook was still attached to the fish and proceeded to swallow both.

When owner Mike realised what had happened, he rushed the dog to the vet where he was told he would have to see a specialist in Edinburgh.

Thankfully, the hook was removed and Lena is at home and on the mend without the necessity of major surgery.

Derek Davidson, a friend of Mike, has now raised a fundraiser to help Mike pay the £2,000 vet bill he has been landed with following the incident.

At the time of writing, the fundraising page was sitting at £650 thanks to the generosity of more than 40 people so far.
