A CENTRAL Fife councillor has issued a warning to residents after a member of her community was approached by someone claiming to be from NHS Fife.

The resident opened her front door in Cardenden to a woman who claimed to be from NHS Fife’s Test and Protect team.

Councillor Rosemary Liewald was then contacted by the resident who thankfully was aware that nobody from the NHS would turn up out of the blue on a doorstep.

Councillor Liewald contacted the Times in order to let residents know to be aware there are people out there looking to take advantage of the vulnerable.

She said: “I was alerted by a resident in Cardenden that she opened her door to a woman claiming to be from the Test and Trace Team of NHS Fife .

“The conversation did not go much further as the resident quickly told the woman that she had no notification or text or email asking for this to be done .

“The woman who presented at the door wore no lanyard and carried no identification in respect of NHS Fife.

“She was wearing white trousers and a top with a blue jacket over that. She was aged around 50 years or so, with short dark hair. And she is around 5 feet 5 inches and of medium build.

“This is particularly concerning as from speaking to our local police officers it is thought that this activity is being used as a method by criminals to gain access into the homes of our elderly and vulnerable.

Given the heightened anxiety of Covid-19 and the necessity and precautions around testing, some of our residents would be all too willing to allow these people over their door step.”
