CENTRAL Fife is edging towards a full suppression of coronavirus, according to the newest map data released.

The Scottish Government’s neighbourhood map shows which council wards are worst hit by Covid-19 to a weekly average based on a population per 100,000 people.

For the week up to and including February 27, the most recent data available, there are no central Fife areas in the highest category of 400+ cases per 100,000 people.

There are currently five wards in the “suppressed” category, meaning there have been fewer than three cases recorded.

Those areas are Lochgelly West and Lumphinnans, Lochgelly East, Kelty West, Kelty East, and Cowdenbeath North.

Cowdenbeath South, and Crossgates and Halbeath are both in the third bottom category with 50-99 infections per 100,000 people.

Cardenden, Hill of Beath and Kingseat, Lochore and Crosshill, and Ballingry are all in the third highest category, with 100-199 infections per 100,000 people.

That means there is no central ward in the top two categories, compared to one last week.

Across Fife there is a seven-day positivity rate of 3.1 per cent, down from 3.7 per cent last week.
