PEOPLE living with mild to moderate dementia will be able to sample fresh cultural experiences thanks to a new series of events.

OnFife is to launch a programme that aims to go beyond the reminiscence-based events and craft activities currently on offer.

The initiative – funded by the Scotland-wide charity, Life Changes Trust – will offer a mixture of online and in person activities.

It will include mindfulness sessions and opportunities for people to explore their local communities using GoPro technology.

Popular OnFife dementia-friendly events such as film screenings and discos will move forward in time to match the musical tastes and favourite films of those attending.

The funding will help to make Kirkcaldy Galleries as dementia friendly as possible. They will become a Hidden Disability venue – helping all visitors to navigate their way around the building and have a relaxed and enjoyable visit.

OnFife libraries’ service development officer Samantha MacDougall said: “People with dementia don’t just want to see things that they’ve seen before – they also want new experiences.

“We hope that those taking part in Cultural Connections will enjoy spending some time with us, find something interesting to do and be inspired to seek out new activities.”
