CENTRAL Fifers are being urged to take advantage of the new asymptomatic covid-19 testing site in Cowdenbeath's Maxwell Centre.

Councillor Rosemary Liewald, who is chairperson of Fife's Health and Social Care Integration Joint Board, visited the facility last Wednesday with fellow councillors.

"The testing is for people who live in the Cowdenbeath, Lochgelly and Lumphinnans area," she explained. "We know that around one in three people with Covid-19 do not show symptoms but can still pass the virus on to others.

"Hopefully through this very early detection, we can reduce transmission within our local areas, helping to protect our families, friends and our communities, particularly those who are most vulnerable.

"The site is safe and secure and follow the strictest hygiene and cleaning guidelines.

At their meeting on Friday, Cllr Liewald told fellow Integration Joint board members that her experience had been "utterly exemplary".

She added: "It was so straight forward, so well explained and the staff were terrific. There were no difficulties at all. The staff are superb down there."

The centre is open to the public from 9am to 8pm, Monday to Friday, and 11am to 5pm on Saturdays and Sundays. Bookings are not required and results can be provided by mobile phone or email.
