A FIFE man has been struck off as a carer after being convicted of a serious sexual offence.

Liam Reilly was convicted at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court in September last year of serious offences in that he “took, or permitted to be taken or made, an indecent photograph of a child. [He] then distributed or showed the indecent photograph.”

Reilly was registered as a residential child care worker until the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) removed him as a result of his conviction.

The SSSC said his fitness to practise had been impaired and that the conviction “called into question his character”, adding that it demonstrated a disregard towards the safety of children.

Reilly provided no comment to the SSSC and made no steps of remediation, nor did he apologise during the investigation, according to the social services council.

His removal comes into effect as of February 12, 2021.
