Animal lover Summer Devine is taking on a step challenge throughout February to raise money for the Scottish SPCA.

The eight-year-old from Hill of Beath was inspired to help animals in need after realising how much the charity was struggling for funds due to the implications of the pandemic.

She'll be walking 10,000 steps a day this month for the pets for steps challenge.

Her mum Clair Brennan-Livingstone said: "Summer absolutely adores animals and when she was looking at the SSPCA website she saw the challenge.

"She begged me to sign her up to it and started fundraising straight away.

"Within a couple of days she's raised £150 and it's a lot of money to her so she's really excited!

"She's normally very busy with all her different activities so it is also giving her something to put her mind too during home schooling."

Summer has three pets, including; teddy bear shihtzu Pablo and her two guinea pigs Betty and Lottie, who she rescued when they needed a new home.

"She would do anything to help animals!" Clair added.

"She's probably have a zoo if she could!

"She's only eight but she's is so switched on and noticed a lot of funding for the SSPCA had stopped.

"At first she asked me if she could go to a rescue shelter to help but I explained that she couldn't do that at the moment.

"So this is her own little way of helping out by raising funds and raising awareness.

"She walked 12,000 steps on Monday and has well as going outside she's been doing laps around the house every so often!"
