A CENTRAL Fife charity has received a huge financial boost thanks to a similar mental health initiative which donated the money.

A Veteran’s Best Friend, a charity started by Mick Cairns, helps veterans around Fife by providing companion and assistance dogs.

Mick started the charity after releasing how much of a help dogs were to his recovery when he was suffering from his own mental health struggles.

Now, the charity has been handed a cheque for £600 by the Connor Law Trust which was set up after the promising young boxer unfortunately took his own life.

The cheque was handed over at the site of Connor’s magnificent mural in Kelty.

Mick told the Times: “Thanks so much to all those involved in the Conner Law Trust, especially Conner’s mum and dad, Gary and Kaye, and not to forget Calvyn Simpson, his best friend.

“This very young man unfortunately took his own life, such a promising boxer here in my home town of Kelty, and from what I have heard, was a great and kind young man.

“I know I run a mental health charity for veterans, but mental health awareness is important in any profession and in society as a whole.

“So please guys, talk to each other and reach out, it is okay not to be okay.

“Let’s look after each other, especially in times like these.”
