A COWDENBEATH man who threatened to kill himself with a knife after making accusations about his wife being unfaithful has been ordered to do unpaid work.

Andrew Barnes, 43, of Woodside, appeared for sentencing at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.

He admitted previously that on June 6, at Selkirk Avenue and Glebe Street, he repeatedly accused his partner of cheating on him, interrogated her phone repeatedly, struggled with her, shouted and swore repeatedly at her, held up a knife, threatened to kill himself and demanded entry to a property.

Depute fiscal Isma Mukhtar told the court previously that the couple had been in a relationship for 10 years and married for three years.

Barnes began accusing his wife of having an affair.

He became irate, demanding to look at her phone. “He struggled with her trying to get the phone. A melee ensued with the family dog becoming involved,” said the depute.

Barnes then picked up a knife with a long blade and threatened to kill himself.

The woman and her daughter left the house and Barnes later went to the address they had gone to. “He made further allegations of infidelity,” added the depute.

The court was told that Barnes was a first offender.

Sheriff Neil Bowie imposed a community payback order with 100 hours of unpaid work and 12 months’ supervision.
