A NUMBER of residents at a central Fife care home have sadly died following a coronavirus outbreak.

A total of 68 people – 25 residents and 43 staff – at Lochgelly’s Mossview Care Home have tested positive for the virus.

The care home was shut to new admissions following the outbreal and NHS Fife has confirmed to the Times that the first case associated with the cluster was discovered on December 20.

It is now more than 14 days since the last positive test.

It is understood that residents received their first round of Covid-19 vaccinations on January 6.

However, in line with guidance, anyone who had tested positive for the virus in the previous four weeks was not offered it.

An NHS Fife spokesperson said: “Sadly, 10 people died after contracting Covid-19 and our thoughts are with their loved ones at this difficult time.”

NHS Fife’s Health Protection Team and the Fife Health and Social Care Partnership worked closely with Fife Council’s Environmental Health Service to support to the management of the care home and offer advice to prevent spread of the virus.

In total, 30 residents and 21 members of staff tested positive.
