A CARDENDEN air force veteran has reached a huge milestone after celebrating his 100th birthday last week.
Wullie Shaw, who lives in Balgreggie Park, Cardenden, is a well-known and much-loved member of the Fife community and hit the milestone on January 14.
Being part of a Covid-safe bubble, Wullie, now a centenarianm was able to celebrate the big day, albeit in more muted fashion than they would have liked, with his kids Nancy, Tommy and Kath.
John Gilfillan, a friend of Wullie and his family, told the Times he is one of the nicest men he has met.
He said: “He was in the first aid and is also an ex-RAF serviceman, and actually lives in the same house John Thomson lived in.”
Thomson was the Celtic player from Kirkcaldy who died following a sickening, accidental clash with Rangers player Sam English.
John continued: “Wullie is one of the nicest people you could ever wish to meet.
“Even at 100, he still has all his faculties. Back when we were allowed in houses I visited him and he still chats away like a 25-year-old.
“He still lays a wreath on Remembrance Sunday and up until a couple of years ago, was able to stand on foot while doing so,” John added.
