A ROAD in Cowdenbeath has been earmarked for urgent repairs following a number of complaints from fed-up residents.

The town’s Bridge Street has been deemed high-risk by Fife Council and has now been set as a category one road, meaning it is a top priority.

Darren Watt, councillor for the town, expressed his delight at the news on social media.

He said: “Anyone who drives along this road, will know first-hand the poor condition the road surface is and how it is continuing to deteriorate by the day despite extensive patch repairs over the last couple of years.

“I'm pleased to say, Fife Council are fully aware of the state of the road and Bridge Street has been included in the draft Area Roads Programme (ARP) for 2021/22 and should be a category 1 (Priority)

“The current draft recommends fully resurfacing from the mini roundabout to the junction of Church Street.

“I have asked council officers to go further to the junction of Thistle Street but await their assessment.

“The ARP will be presented to councillors at the Cowdenbeath Area Committee on March 10 for approval.

“If approved, works on category 1 projects should be completed within that financial year (Apr 21-Apr 22)

“There are then several factors that transportation need to consider when prioritising works but as this is a major road and a main gateway in and out of Cowdenbeath and the surrounding villages, I will certainly work with council officers to ensure this road is fully repaired without unnecessary delay.

“In the meantime, I will update the relevant Council Officers of the current state and seek possible early intervention.”
