THE overall coronavirus positivity rate in Fife has increased over the past week, as certain areas have seen significant rises.

The Scottish Government’s neighbourhood map shows which council wards are worst hit by Covid-19 to a weekly average based on a population per 100,000 people.

For the week up to and including January 2, the most recent data available, there are no central Fife areas in the highest category of 400+ cases per 100,000 people.

Last week there was no areas in the top two categories. However, this week that has changed.

Cardenden, Cowdenbeath North, Lochgelly East, Lochgelly West and Lumphinnans, and Kelty West all feature in the second highest level of 200 to 399 cases per 100,000 people.

Below that in the 100-199 category is Cowdenbeath South, Hill of Beath and Kingseat, and Kelty East.

Ballingry, Crossgates and Halbeath, and Lochore and Crosshill have all “suppressed” the virus, meaning each area has less than three cases.

The worst hit area in central Fife is Cardenden which saw 17 positive cases in the aforementioned week.

Across the whole of Fife there is a seven day positivity rate of 9.9 per cent. The World Health Organisation (WHO) outline that a positive percentage over five is “out of control”.
