A YOUNGSTER from Glasgow has tragically died following a brave battle with a brain tumour.

Sophia Walker sadly passed away yesterday.

Residents in Govan are now being encouraged to light up the area in memory of the youngster and send love to her family.

The Old Govan Fair wrote on Facebook: "It is with great sadness to let you all know that our beautiful Govan fair queen Sophia passed away yesterday peacefully at home, surrounded by her family.

"She had a crazy spirit and a smile that lit up the room and will be sorely missed.

"In her memory we are asking if you can light a candle from 5-7pm tonight for the next week, outside your door or by the window, let’s light up Govan and send our loving thoughts to Sophia's family at this time."

In August, we reported that Sophia was overjoyed after staff at Glasgow Central Station ensured she had a day to remember.

Sophia got to drive a train after her final wish was made a reality with the help of the Dream Maker Foundation and ScotRail staff.

Her excitement was described as "infectious".

A spokesman for the Les Hoey MBE Dream Maker Foundation said: "Gorgeous Sophia wanted to drive a train and massive thanks to Network Rail and ScotRail her wish came true.

Glasgow Times:

"Sophia was invited to Glasgow Central Station where her name was in lights up on the board. She was given VIP treatment.

"She was then taken under the station to see the old tracks and the murals under the station before being treated to lunch and getting a gift of a train drivers key and whistle among other goodies.

"Sophia was so excited and had so much fun and her huge smile was infectious and had everyone laughing and smiling with her.
