LOCHORE Meadows is now shining in the early Christmas glow after a community group’s lighting project came to fruition with the switch on last month.

The Friends of Lochore Meadows Group officially unveiled the Winter Lighting Project on with the tree lights being switched on last month.

The group have been planning the project for considerable time recently and are pleased to see the completion of one of their first projects.

Friend of Lochore Meadows undertook extensive community consultation throughout 2018 and are passionate about taking forward projects and developments in consultation with the community, and in partnership with Fife Council.

The Winter Lighting is a public and community-led project which has been supported, and taken forward in conjunction with Fife Council.

Sarah Roxburgh, Cowdenbeath's Community Manager said: "The Friends of Lochore Meadows has been established for almost 2 years now and it is very encouraging to see that visitors to the park will now witness the first of a series of initiatives which should enhance the experience of those who come to the park.

“A number of projects are in the pipeline and are testimony to the very hard work which is going on in the background."

Karen Hunter, who is treasurer of the group, said: “The Tree Lights look wonderful and positive feedback has been received from community members.

“The new winter lighting will assist in taking the park forward as a 'year long' destination park, and will also compliment the festive lighting put in place around the villages by other local community groups.

“The Friends of Lochore Meadows Group are keen to take forward further projects which will enhance the park for all to enjoy."

The group are planning further projects at the moment including a 2021 Calendar featuring photographs taken by park visitors, planning for the development of a new 'all inclusive play facility, and supporting the Save The Train Project for which fundraising is currently being undertaken by 10-year-old Ollie Cowan.

The group wished to a pay a huge thank you to the park manager and Fife Council for their continued support.
