A YOUNG boy is appealing for help in hitting a fundraising target which would go towards restoring the Meedies Train to its former glory.

Ollie Cowan, a pupil at St Bride’s Primary School in Cowdenbeath, wants to see the train repaired and opened back up so that generations to come can enjoy it properly, like he and his relatives have.

The pug train has been out of use for some time now and requires safety repairs and restoration to be completed before the community can make use of it again.

It is a well-loved and cherished icon from the former mining era and is currently fenced off and unfit for use.

Ollie, who is supported by the Lochore Meadows Group, is now trying to raise £1,540 to carry out the repairs but needs the help of the community to get him there with an amazing £965 already pledged at the time of writing.

Ollie told the Times: “The Meedies train has been there as long as I can remember, as long as my dad can remember, and even as long as his dad can remember.

“My name is Ollie and I want it back to how it was when it was new so it can be here for generations to come.

“It’s important to preserve the heritage of our community, to remember where we came from and to celebrate the workers who helped build our towns.

“Help me get the train cleaned, painted and back to brand new again.”
