CUSTOMERS and staff were evacuated at an Asda in Dunfermline yesterday evening (Thursday).

The alarm was raised at the Halbeath supermarket with the fire service called out at around 5.30pm.

One engine raced to the scene but it turned out to be a false alarm.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 5.30pm on Thursday, October 15, to a fire alarm activation at Asda, Halbeath, Dunfermline.

"Operations control immediately mobilised one fire appliance.

"Firefighters checked the building and established that there was no sign of fire or smoke.

"Crews left the scene after ensuring the area was safe."
