COWDENBEATH secured a point against Championship side Inverness Caledonian Thistle last night before missing out on a bonus point in a penalty shootout.

The Central Park outfit travelled north to face Thistle with a depleted squad following a number of injuries, but the young guns who came in did their chances of a regular spot on harm at all.

In a game devoid of many clear cut chances, the match finished 0-0 at the Caledonian Stadium, with the hosts coming out on top in the shootout with four successful attempts to Cowden’s two.

The result leaves the Blues bottom of group A after Hearts beat Raith Rovers 3-1 at Tynecastle.

Meanwhile, Kelty Hearts were edged out at Tannadice as they were beaten 1-0 away to Premiership side Dundee United.

Following a potential penalty shout for the Jambos, United went up the other end with Ryan Edwards heading home a Peter Pawlett cross in first-half stoppage time.

Hearts remain second bottom on zero points with Brechin City below them on goal difference.
