A man was seriously injured in an attack which is being treated as attempted murder. 

Cops were called to Florence Street in Greenock last night after the disturbance around 10.30pm. 

The 31-year-old man suffered serious injuries to his upper body and was taken to Inverclyde Royal Hospital where he is in a stable condition.

Officers are appealing for information about three women linked to the attack.

The three women got out of a car before the disturbance happened at the front door of a property. 

One of the women is described as heavy set with blonde hair, but police do not have descriptions of the other women at this time. 

Additional patrols have been put in place in the area after the targeted attack. 

Detective Inspector David Wagstaff, of Greenock CID, said: "We don't know where the women or the car went after the attack and we're appealing for anyone with information to contact us.

"We believe it was a targeted attack and additional patrols are being carried out in the area."
