COWDENBEATH Rotary Club will be sending at least 200 Shoeboxes to orphanages in the Ukraine for this Christmas.

Thursday's Zoom meeting of the club heard from international convener Tom Russell,that the current coronavirus crisis was causing problems with a number of the initiatives the rotarians were involved with at home and abroad, but he had received the boxes which people can filled with items which would make nice Christmas presents for children.

Lochgelly based Tom told the meeting: "We normally have several of our local schools and nurseries involved in this initiative, but due to the Covid-19 restrictions it might be that this year we will have to rely on the members fill these and prepare to send them to the Ukraine in November.

"There are 70 children's orphanages out there who will welcome these to ensure that youngsters will have something to enjoy on Christmas morning."

More than 14 of the club members indicated that would take five or more boxes and Tom added: "If any or our schools or nurseries want to get involved we will have boxes for them. They just need to let me know and I can get them some."
