HOW Christmas 2020 will pan out in the year of the Covid-19 crisis, no one can tell but there are desires in Benarty to put together a string of ideas to ensure that people of all ages have something to enjoy.

Community enthusiast, Tammy Marr, is looking to set up a group who can come up with ideas to ensure that Christmas 2020 can be a time for enjoyment no matter what the coronavirus problems bring.

Tammy is hoping that people in the community join her in this quest.

Over the years there have been some amazing community events in the communities of Glencraig, Crosshill, Lochore and Ballingry and one of the including Santa's visit organised by the Events Group and the Santa Benarty venture which has seen amazing donations of gifts to ensure children have something to wake up to on Christmas morning.

All the uncertainty is not putting Tammy off though. She said on the Benarty Matters Facebook page: "As everybody knows, Xmas festivities are going to look a bit different this year, the kids' parties, Santa’s grottos etc aren’t likely to feature. Santa Benarty and his sleigh will still go round the streets with a few tweaks as necessary.

"However, if there was ever a year a bit of extra cheer was welcome it would be this one!

"I’m hoping to bring together a group who fancy making something decent come out of 2020. I’ve got a few ideas and I’d love to hear more and then run with some or as many as possible.

"How about a community time capsule to capture the craziness of this year and remember the positives we made of it, like the food bank collection, the rainbow pictures, the advice from the care home residents that made us smile, the gala bag handout...photos and videos saved to a usb, school involvement.

"Loads of possibilities. Once filled we can take it on a mini Benarty tour with the characters and superheroes that the bairns will love seeing and have it displayed somewhere like the Willie Clarke Centre at the country park."

Added Tammy: "No spooky walk this year but we can do a winter wonderland trail during the day, the new Fairy Trail has a perfect layout... lots of possibilities there!

"Maybe snowmen cut outs, painted and spread around the place, if some local shops would agree to put them out and bring them in at night kids could have their photos taken with them!

"Hit me with ideas! If we can bring a bit of magic to the place maybe we can go on to look at other projects in the New Year, the peddle boats, crazy golf. So many possibilities if there are people to put things in motion.

"I’ll set up a separate group once I know it’s going to be more than just Bing the bear wandering round the streets, either comment on here or pm me if you’re interested".

So Tammy has set the ball rolling and with so many committed people in the community this is sure to be another Benarty success story.
