A DUNFERMLINE man caused a disturbance in a police van giving him a lift to his sister’s house.

Police had been called to Craig Mills’ house when his ex-partner was collecting his belongings after the pair had separated.

Mills, 26, of Maitland Street, appeared in the dock at Dunfermline Sheriff Court in connection with the incident.

He admitted that on May 20, at Carnegie Drive, on a journey to Cowdenbeath and at Dunfermline police station, he acted aggressively, shouted, swore and punched the inside of a police van repeatedly.

He also admitted struggling violently with two police officers, lashed out with his arms and legs and attempted to break free from their grasp.

Depute fiscal Jill Currie said Mills had become increasingly aggressive to one of the officers who had attended his home.

In an attempt to calm things down, police offered to take Mills to his sister’s home in Cowdenbeath.

He agreed to this but once in the van, he began punching the interior and was eventually arrested. He then began to fight with the officers as he was being put in handcuffs.

Defence solicitor James Moncrieff said: “He had been drinking after breaking up with his partner and doesn’t remember a great deal of what happened.

“He himself describes it as being stupid, foolish behaviour, which he’s ashamed of.”

Sheriff Charles Macnair called for a medical report on Mills’ ability to do unpaid work and he will be sentenced on October 28.
