THE fire service staff at Lochgelly are taking part in a water safety project targeted on Lochore Meadows Country Park.

Cowdenbeath Area Committee heard on Wednesday that improved safety equipment and working with schools would be involved in the plans.

The move comes after a summer spell which saw one which ended up in a fatality and several other incidents at the loch which needed emergency teams called out to the Meedies with people in difficulties.

Station officer at Lochgelly's Lumphinnans Road base, Mike Youngson told councillors: "There have been a number of incidents on the loch at the country park during the past few months.

"The project is geared to looking at acquiring some more water safety equipment at the park but also working with the schools in the Cowdenbeath Area to highlight the importance of water safety."

The councillors agreed this was an excellent project.
