PEOPLE are anxious to get back into local sports and leisure facilities and are acting fast to secure their opportunity to visit local the likes of Cowdenbeath Leisure Centre.

Fife Sports and Leisure Trust, has seen nearly 800 bookings since it launched its online booking system this week as part of its Covid health and safety measures ahead of doors opening on three of its leisure centres on Monday, September 14.

The trust and will roll-out a phased re-opening programme to ensure the safety of customers and staff – it will see Michael Woods Sports and Leisure Centre in Glenrothes, Carnegie Leisure Centre and Pitreavie Athletics Centre, in Dunfermline and Kirkcaldy Leisure Centre opening doors first; followed by Cowdenbeath Leisure Centre, East Sands Leisure Centre, Levenmouth Swimming Pool and Sports Centre, and Dalgety Bay Leisure Centre on Monday, September 28.

The next phase then will see Bowhill Swimming Pool, Duloch Leisure Centre, Cupar Leisure Centre, and Waterstone Crook Leisure Centre welcoming customers on Monday, October 12, followed by the Beacon Leisure Centre on Monday, October 26.

Ahead of the phased re-opening the trust released details of its online booking system and programme timetables, and, will soon launch a new customer app so that customers can easily access facilities with the new Covid measures in place.

Scott Urquhart, sports and physical activity team manager for Fife Sports and Leisure Trust, said: “Our staff and facilities are ready and we are very much looking forward to welcoming customers back to their local facilities. "We’re sure that customers will be confident in the protocols we have in place which are in line with Government, NHS Scotland and industry guidelines.

“We understand customers across Fife will be eager to get back to their local leisure centres and we would appeal for understanding as we step up preparations as quickly and as safely as we can. I’d also like to thank them for their support and goodwill during the closure of our facilities.”
