A COWDENBEATH man assaulted his mum after a row about the temperature of his bath.

Grant Lawrie’s behaviour escalated out of control, Dunfermline Sheriff Court has head.

Lawrie, 21, of Hillview, appeared for sentencing.

He admitted previously that on February 20, 2018, he assaulted his mum by grabbing her arm, forcing it to hit her on the face, kicked her on the body, pushed her onto a couch and threw a mobile phone which struck her on the head.

Depute fiscal Jill Currie said: “At around 8pm, the accused returned to his mother’s home. He went upstairs for a bath which she had prepared for him. He became disgruntled about the temperature of the water.

“He was then told by his mother that he wouldn’t be getting money for his dinner.”

The court was told Lawrie became upset and started telling his mum the house was a “s****-hole” and she was “a joke”.

She told him to leave and picked up a bag of his clothes which she was going to throw out.

He grabbed her wrist and her hand struck against her face. He also kicked her to the side of her waist, causing her to fall, and threw a phone at her, striking her on the forehead, causing a lump above her eye.

The court was told the argument went on for another 45 minutes before Lawrie left the living room, shutting his mum inside.

Defence solicitor Brian Black said: “He knows his behaviour was out of control. At that time, he was drinking to excess, taking drugs and running up debts. He’s very regretful about the way he behaved.”

Sheriff Charles Macnair said: “This was a nasty and sustained attack on your mother.” He imposed a community payback order with 160 hours of unpaid work.
