A LUMPHINNANS man has appeared in court for stalking his former partner.

Bernard Callaghan went to Edinburgh to meet his ‘ex’ as she left work, pestering her to rekindle their relationship.

As a result, Callaghan, 49, of Robert Smith Court, ended up in the dock at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.

He admitted that between January 10-15, he engaged in a course of conduct which caused his former partner fear or alarm, in that he attended her place of work repeatedly, sent repeatedly electronic messages which he knew were unwanted and demanded repeatedly that she resumed their relationship.

Depute fiscal Jill Currie said the woman had been trying to end her long-term relationship with Callaghan.

“However, he was not accepting it was over,” she added.

She left work in Edinburgh and went to her tram stop and found him there, pleading with her to resume the relationship, the court was told.

The next day, he was there again when she finished work. She accepted a lift from him so as not to cause a scene there, the court heard. He kept asking her to get back together with him and offered to take her on holiday.

The next day, she contacted the police.

Defence solicitor Brian Black said: “He tells me it took a long time for him to accept the relationship was over and he seems to have been in denial.

“However, he tells me he knows now that it’s over and he fully accepts that.”

Sheriff Alastair Brown fined Callaghan £380 and imposed a three-year non-harassment order.
