KINGLASSIE MSP, Jenny Gilruth, has put her name forward for selection as the SNP’s candidate in the upcoming Scottish Parliament elections.

The local politician was first elected in 2016, having worked previously as a teacher in Fife and she is delighted to put her name forward as candidate for the Glenrothes and Mid Fife constituency.

Jenny Gilruth said this week: "I am delighted to announce that I am putting myself forward for selection to be the SNP candidate for Mid Fife and Glenrothes in next year’s Holyrood elections.

"The last four years have been anything but plain sailing politically; from Brexit to Covid, the challenges of being an MSP have been plentiful, but I have relished the opportunity to represent my home constituency.

“Securing a commitment from the Scottish Government to re-establish Leven’s railway has been perhaps the proudest moment of my time in office. As has funding for important road improvements to the A92. From hosting events in the Scottish Parliament like the Birthday Party for Glenrothes’ 70th, to beach cleans at Lower Largo and Leven beaches, I have always used the platform afforded to me as an MSP to seek support for and to celebrate this fantastic constituency".

Ms Gilruth added: “But being an MSP is not only about those ‘big’ moments - it’s about holding regular surgeries and helping people. Securing benefits for folk who have been denied by the DWP, helping to establish bus stops, managing to get energy suppliers to reimburse folk – getting results for my constituents is undoubtedly the most rewarding part of the job.

“I’ve been privileged to serve in the Scottish Government since February as the Minister for Europe and International Development.

"The SNP has a strong record in Government since 2007 and Scotland is undoubtedly at another political crossroads. In Westminster we face a majority Tory Government that Scotland didn’t vote for, driving through a hard Brexit, that Scotland didn’t vote for. Never has the need for Independence been clearer and never has support for it been higher.

“I am determined to continue to be that strong voice that the people of Mid Fife and Glenrothes need. With your support, we can hold this constituency for the SNP next year and be part of a historic fifth term in office.”
