A BALLINGRY man night fishing at Lochore Meadows thought his daughter was in trouble when he heard someone shouting her name.

Instead, builder Jamie Brogan, 43, discovered two "hysterical" women looking for another 13-year-old girl who had gone missing around 1am in the country park.

He jumped on his bike and cycled round the loch, eventually finding the youngster safe and sound on the other side of the loch, a good distance from her family's campervan.

Jamie said: "I'm just glad she was found safe. Any longer and the helicopter would have been out.

"I hate to think what could have happened. She was at the other side of the Meedies from where she was staying, heading away, she didn't know the area and was almost at the crossroads and the road to Kelty.

"It was a bizarre episode and there weren't any other witnesses. I think my wife still thinks I'm kidding on!

"I'd called a pal to see if he wanted to go fishing, I never heard back and was in two minds about going, I'm glad I did now."

The youngster went missing in the early hours of Sunday August 16.

He remembered: "I'd just set up, had the rod out and was about to put the bait on when I heard a woman shouting 'Mya'.

"I've got a daughter called Mya so I thought something had happened.

"I got my fishing stuff together, jumped on the bike and when I got to the back of the boathouse, there were two women who were hysterical as a young lassie had gone missing.

"She was 13, same age as my Mya, I mean, what's the chances of that?

"If they had shouted another name I may not have gone round!"

Jamie continued: "They said she was from Perth, they were in a campervan and the young lassie was lost.

"They were on the phone to the police at the time, so I said I'd get on the bike and pedal round the Meedies to see if I could find her.

"I couldn't see anything but just as I got into the nature reserve, I saw the young lassie on the grass.

"I called 'Mya', she answered 'yeah' and I said 'Your mum's gonna kill you, she's been looking all over the place for you'.

"She seemed fine. She said they'd been playing cards and she'd gone for a walk but she was a long way from the centre.

"The police said thanks and that was me done so I just went home.

"When I told my wife I'd found a young lassie called Mya who was 13-years-old, I don't think she believed me."

The dad-of-five added: "I'd left the house about 1.30am, just to get a bit of peace and quiet for an hour.

"Obviously the night took a different turn. I never did catch anything either!"

A Police Scotland spokesperson told the Times: "Police received a report of a 13-year-old girl from a site within Lochore Meadows Country Park around 1.20pm.

"Officers attended however she was traced nearby a short time later."
