THE Fife football scene was saddened by the news of the death on Tuesday of a very popular figure, Brian Marr, from Crossgates, who had loyally served clubs at senior and junior level.

Brian, known in football as 'Gunter,' for his exploits at fives in his time at Rosyth Dockyard, had been working with the Hearts Academy as kitman having spent nine years in the role with Raith Rovers from 2006 to 2015.

He had been active on the junior scene with Crossgates Primrose and spent a spell as assistant boss at Kelty Hearts. He was Kelty assistant manager between 1997 and 2000, and helped the club reach the Scottish Junior Cup Final in 1999

Gunter was always warmly welcomed to Central Park. His daughter is currently the Cowden physio, and the board of Cowdenbeath were saddened by the news.

Secretary David Allan said: "Everyone at Cowdenbeath has been greatly saddened to learn of the passing of Hearts Academy kitman Brian ‘Gunter’ Marr.

"Brian lived in Crossgates and the thoughts of everyone at Central Park are with his wife Linda and daughter Sophie, who is the Cowdenbeath FC physio, at this most difficult of times".

Brian's funeral will take place on Saturday August 29 at Ballingry Cemetery.

The cortege will leave his house in Crossgates at around 10.30am and go to Ballingry via Cowwdenbeath, Lochgelly, and the Benarty villages given people the opportunity to say goodbye to a very popular man.
