THERE has been something of a false start for schools today after the thunderstorms of the early hours.

A number of primary and nursery facilities have been affected and Lochgelly High School is closed with the road just down from the school completely impassable with a van trapped up to its roof!

A phenomenal amount of water fell as thunderstorms pounded the area throughout the night and at 8.50am Fife Council announced that locally affected facilities that would not open today were Denend Primary School and Nursery, in Cardenden, through Building Problems, while also in the village St Ninian's Nursery and Primary School was closed also through Building Problems.

In Lochore Benarty Nursery and Primary School was also closed through Building Problems.

The heavy rain caused major problems on local roads with the main Crosshill to Lochgelly road completely flooded while there were a number of roads in Benarty carrying a lot of water.

Also in Cardenden the Den Burn has overflowed and is posing major issues with a lot of water pouring down the street for a spell while in Crossgates the road leading out of the village south was deep in water, while Kinglassie was also suffering issues with water causing traffic real concerns.
