SCOTTISH Water have been given the green light by Fife Council to erect fences and handrails along with steps in Crossgates to ensure safety at SUDS ponds.

These are at Baxter Road and Scott Court in the village.

Scottish Water said in a supporting statement for the plan that the vesting process ensures the existing SUDS ponds meet Scottish Water’s specifications.

The statement added: "Unfortunately the SUDS ponds embankments are steeper than Scottish Water specification allows and there is a risk of falls into the pond. In order to mitigate against this risk the proposal is to install 1.1m high posts and wire fencing around the top of the ponds. "Additional work includes constructing a set of steps down the embankments and installing handrailings on the inlet and outlet headwalls to allow safe maintenance access".
