AN eight year-old Lochgelly boy took on the Lomond hills for Alzheimers Scotland and thanks to some excellent support from family and friends raised £800.

Leo Shields, from Benarty Avenue, took on the challenge of West Lomond in memory of his great gran, May, and great grandad, John.

With the support of his mum, Sarah, and dad Stuart, the St Patrick's Primary School pupil wanted to raise several hundred pounds for the charity, which aims to make sure nobody faces dementia alone, by providing support and information to people with dementia, their carers and families.

A keen swimmer and footballer, Leo enjoys walking and having seen two of his great grandparents suffer from dementia he wanted to do something to help the organisation that supports people suffering from the condition.

Leo walked five and a half miles up West Lomond hill, with his mum and dad, on Sunday August 2.

His target was £150 but he raised over £800.

His gran Michelle Scally said: "It was a memory walk for the Alzheimer's society in memory of his great gran and great grandad.

"Leo and his mum and dad, indeed the whole family, are really grateful for the donations that everyone has made.

"Leo loves swimming and playing football, and also likes to go out for long walks, so he was really prepared for the challenge the West Lomonds presented".
