COWDENBEATH Community Council is rightly furious at the latest bout of vandalism in the town's Community Woodland.

A selection of photos that underlined the situation were sent to the community council by residents who use the Community Woodland, at Woodend.

These showed how people had been camping out in the Woodland and there were discarded bottles of spirits strewn around and a small tent left.

But the real blow was that two benches that visitors to the Community Woodland use to have a break when walking through the feature, were set on fire.

Said the Community Council on their Facebook page: "The Police and Safer Communities teams were informed at the beginning of the week when the vandalism happened.

"Two benches situated in the woodland were broken up and set on fire and completely destroyed.

"The Community Woodland has been the subject of mindless vandalism before. I'm not sure if the vandals realise it, but its volunteers as well as Fife Council who keep the Woodland maintained

"The volunteers are certainly "fed up" with what's been happening and really wonder why they bother and we are furious about this damage".

During 2019 the Woodland was a base for vandals to take stolen wheelie bins to and burn them which also damaged young trees and over the year the town's Environment Group, who look after the attraction, counted almost 100 destroyed bins!
