A MAIN road taking traffic away from the centre of Dunfermline will be closed for six weeks.

Scottish Water will be carrying out works on Coal Road, which will be shut from 9.30am on Monday August 17 to 5pm on Friday September 25.

A spokesperson said: "We are currently working on a project to upgrade the local sewer network to help prevent sewer flooding in the area.

"This involves the installation of new upsized sewer pipes.

"The road closure is required to enable our alliance partners, Amey Black & Veatch, to safely install the new pipes.

"We thank all customers and road users for their patience and understanding while we carry out this work."

Coal Road, which skirts round Pittencrieff Park, is a popular route for motorists keen to avoid driving through the centre of Dunfermline.

The diversion route, from south to north, is via Nethertown Broad Street, St Margaret's Drive, Carnegie Drive and Pittencrieff Street.

Access for emergency services, residents and pedestrians will be maintained.
