ONFife’s Connect & Collect library service has proved a fantastic hit, but with branches set to move towards limited browsing a ‘last orders’ call is going out to customers.

Nearly 3,000 requests were submitted for a ‘lucky dip’ bag of books, which have been collected from library doors, with more than 20,000 books being issued, over three weeks with Cardenden, Cowdenbeath and Jennie Lee Libraries very much involved.

Limited browsing will be available from next Wednesday (August 5), welcoming library members back into browsing but with restrictions in place, so the final date for orders to be placed for Connect & Collect will be this Sunday (August 2).

“As we continue to emerge out of lockdown, Connect & Collect has been a great way for members to engage with their local library again and enjoy bags of books selected for them by staff,” said June Souter, Libraries Service development manager.

“However, we also know that much as they’ve loved the service, members are also very keen to get back to browsing for books themselves – and we’re looking forward to welcoming them back into the branches.”

Safety restrictions include a limited number of customers in buildings at one time so there will be a queuing system in place.

Public access PCs can also be booked again, although restrictions will also apply to allow for physical distancing.

While Connect & Collect will end at ONFife branches, it will still be available at the Fife Council integrated service branches of Leven and Methil until further notice.
