COWDENBEATH will open the new SPFL League 2 season on home soil.

The 27 game campaign will start for the Blues on Saturday October 17 with a home game against Annan Athletic then this is followed up by a tough match with pre-season favourites for the title Edinburgh City.

These opening matches are then followed up by a home fixture with Stenhousemuir and a trip to Stranraer on November 7.

Indeed, Cowden have to travel to the Stair Parkers twice!

The holiday fixture on January 2 is a home match with Edinburgh City.

Cowden will finish the season with four out of the last six games at home, so if the Blue Brazil are up their challenging, as manager Gary Bollan intends, that could be a big plus.

Cowdenbeath won twice over Annan at Central Park last season so they will be going all out to make it three in a row to get the season off to a flying start.

Of course there will be three Betfred Cup fixtures before the league starts, with these being on October 6, 10 and 13.

Cub secretary David Allan was delighted to receive the fixtures for as he said: "You now feel we are getting much closer to seeing action after months of inactivity."
